Frida Kahlo represents to me a life of unapologetic self expression.  I am fascinated by the tension between her vivid colors in her art and dress and the darkness she carried.
This piece is my homage to that complexity, translating Frida's iconic presence into wood.  I built her image from fragmented remnants that I carved and reassembled, much like the way she stitched a life out of pain, passion and beauty.  The result is a larger than life portrait that invites viewers to feel her gaze made alive with vibrant wood colors and carving, while she sees into you.
